Affordable Therapy Through Our Student Clinician Program
Quality Mental Health Care Should Be Accessible
At Hermosillo Family Therapy, we understand that the cost of therapy can sometimes make it difficult for individuals and families to receive the support they need.
Our Student Clinician Program provides an additional option for individuals seeking affordable mental health services while also supporting the education and development of future mental health professionals.
Through this program, eligible clients may receive therapy for $25–$45 per session, depending on the type of service, clinical needs, and what the client would like to work on.
Student clinicians provide services as part of their graduate-level clinical training and work under the supervision and guidance of experienced licensed mental health professionals.
Affordable care. Professional supervision. Meaningful support.

What Is a Student Clinician?
A student clinician is a graduate student completing advanced education and supervised clinical training in the mental health field.
Student clinicians are learning how to provide psychotherapy as part of their graduate degree and must complete supervised clinical experience before graduating and moving forward in the professional licensure process.
At Hermosillo Family Therapy, student clinicians do not practice independently.
They receive ongoing training, consultation, and clinical supervision from licensed mental health professionals who help guide their assessment, treatment planning, interventions, documentation, ethical decision-making, and overall clinical development.
This means that when you work with a student clinician, you are also receiving the benefit of a collaborative training and supervision process designed to support thoughtful and responsible care.
Low-Cost Therapy: $25–$45 Per Session
Student clinician sessions are offered at a reduced private-pay rate of:
$25–$45 per session
The rate may vary depending on the type of service being provided, the client's needs, and the focus of treatment.
Our goal is to provide another pathway to therapy for people who may:
-
Not have mental health insurance benefits
-
Have a high deductible or high out-of-pocket costs
-
Prefer not to use insurance for therapy
-
Be unable to afford standard private-pay therapy rates
-
Be looking for a lower-cost option for ongoing support
-
Want additional support navigating a life transition, relationship concern, emotional difficulty, or other mental health need
Because these services are offered as part of our clinical training program, student clinician sessions are private-pay services and are not billed to insurance.

What Can I Work on in Therapy?
You do not have to be experiencing a crisis or have everything figured out before beginning therapy.
Depending on the student clinician's training and whether the service is appropriate for the program, therapy may address concerns such as:
Anxiety & Stress
Learn to better understand anxiety, identify triggers, develop coping strategies, and manage everyday stress.
Depression & Low Mood
Explore emotional patterns, improve coping skills, and work toward greater connection, motivation, and well-being.
Self-Esteem & Identity
Explore your sense of self, confidence, boundaries, values, cultural identity, and personal growth.
Relationships & Family Concerns
Work through communication difficulties, interpersonal patterns, family dynamics, boundaries, and relationship stress.
Life Transitions
Receive support through changes involving school, work, relationships, family roles, independence, relocation, or other major transitions.
Grief & Loss
Have a supportive space to process loss, adjustment, and the many emotions that can accompany grief.
Parenting & Family Stress
Explore parenting challenges, communication, family relationships, and strategies for creating healthier patterns at home.
Cultural & Generational Experiences
Explore experiences involving culture, immigration, family expectations, generational differences, identity, and belonging.
Personal Growth
Therapy does not always have to begin with a diagnosis. Some clients simply want a space to better understand themselves, improve relationships, develop healthier patterns, or work toward personal goals.
Is Therapy With a Student Clinician Different?
In many ways, your sessions will look very similar to therapy with another clinician.
You will meet privately with your student clinician, establish goals for therapy, discuss what is bringing you to treatment, and work collaboratively throughout the therapeutic process.
The primary difference is that your clinician is still completing graduate-level clinical training.
Because of this, student clinicians participate in regular supervision and may discuss your treatment with their licensed clinical supervisor for educational, consultation, and treatment-planning purposes.
Your privacy remains important. Student clinicians and their supervisors are expected to follow applicable confidentiality, privacy, ethical, and professional requirements.

Who Is a Good Fit for Student Clinician Services?
Student clinician services can be a great option for many clients, but they may not be appropriate for every situation.
Before services begin, our team will review your needs to determine whether our Student Clinician Program is an appropriate level of care.
Clients experiencing concerns that require a higher level of care, specialized treatment, intensive crisis intervention, or expertise beyond the student clinician's current level of training may be referred to a licensed or associate clinician within Hermosillo Family Therapy or to another appropriate provider or program.
Our priority is not simply placing someone with the lowest-cost clinician. Our priority is making sure the level of care matches the client's needs.
