Frequently Asked Questions
Is a student clinician already a therapist?
A student clinician is a graduate-level clinician who is completing the supervised clinical experience required as part of their professional education. They are not independently licensed therapists and provide services under appropriate clinical supervision.
Will my student clinician have a supervisor?
Yes. Clinical supervision is an important part of the training process. Student clinicians regularly consult with licensed clinical supervisors regarding their clinical work.
Is my therapy still confidential?
Yes. Student clinicians are expected to follow applicable confidentiality, privacy, ethical, and professional requirements. Because this is a training program, relevant clinical information may be discussed with the student's supervisor as part of supervision and treatment consultation.
Why are sessions only $25–$45?
The reduced rate reflects the clinician's status as a graduate student completing supervised clinical training. Offering reduced-fee services also supports our larger mission of making mental health care more accessible within our community.
Can I use my insurance?
Student clinician services are offered as low-cost private-pay services and are not billed to Commercial insurance. If you have Medi-Cal, we can bill your insurance.
What if I need a more experienced clinician?
That's okay. Part of our intake process is determining the appropriate level of care. If your needs would be better served by an associate or independently licensed clinician, our team can discuss other treatment options with you.
