Meet Our Student Clinician: Julia Chu

Introduction

We are excited to introduce Julia Chu, Marriage and Family Therapy Trainee, who joined Hermosillo Family Therapy Foundation as part of her graduate clinical training at the University of the West.

Julia is originally from Taiwan and came to the United States in 2024 as part of a double-degree bachelor's program. Julia is also fluent in Mandarin. Her interest in psychology developed from a desire to better understand her own emotions and experiences and eventually grew into a passion for helping others understand their stories, relationships, and emotional worlds.

During her studies at the University of the West, Julia has also had the opportunity to explore the connections between psychology, Buddhism, spirituality, religion, and psychotherapy. These experiences have helped broaden her perspective on the many cultural, personal, and spiritual factors that can influence how people understand themselves and experience healing.

As part of her training at Hermosillo Family Therapy, Julia has participated in clinician shadowing, structured training, clinical role-plays and case vignettes, documentation training, case conceptualization, treatment planning, and ongoing clinical supervision. Her training is designed to gradually build the skills and experience necessary to provide thoughtful, ethical, and culturally responsive care.

Julia's presence within our practice also represents something larger: our commitment to creating meaningful learning opportunities for emerging clinicians while expanding access to mental health services within our community. Since Julia is bilingual in Mandarin and English, she brings valuable linguistic and cultural diversity to Hermosillo Family Therapy Foundation. Her multicultural background enriches our practice by broadening our understanding of different cultural perspectives and supporting our commitment to providing inclusive, culturally responsive mental health care to the diverse communities we serve.
