About Us

Hermosillo Family Therapy was founded on the principles of providing accessible, culturally responsive mental health services to the greater Los Angeles community and across California. Our practice is led by Desirée Hermosillo, PsyD, LMFT, a Mexican-American psychotherapist born and raised in Northeast Los Angeles, who is deeply passionate about giving back to the communities that shaped her. She established this group practice while completing her doctoral program with a clear mission: to reduce barriers to care and create meaningful access to high-quality mental health services for underserved populations.

Accessibility is central to our work. We proudly accept commercial insurance plans, Medi-Cal, and Medicare, ensuring that individuals and families from low-SES and middle-class backgrounds can receive care without unnecessary financial strain. While our roots are in Los Angeles, we serve clients and communities across California through both in-person and telehealth services—including clients in Northern California, Central California, Los Angeles County, and Southern California. Wherever you are, we strive to meet you where you’re at.

We recognize that many communities—particularly Latino, BIPOC, and historically marginalized populations—are disproportionately impacted by systemic barriers, economic stressors, housing instability, and limited access to culturally relevant care. Our team works diligently to create services that promote safety, dignity, and trust while honoring cultural values, lived experiences, and family systems. Our therapists reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and are committed to providing care that feels understood, respectful, and affirming.

Our practice is also grounded in advocacy—both human and animal. We understand the emotional and mental health challenges faced by individuals living in overcrowded housing or residences that do not allow pets, despite the profound emotional support animals can provide. As strong animal advocates, we recognize the role pets play in emotional regulation, companionship, and healing. When clinically appropriate, we provide Emotional Support Animal (ESA) evaluations and letters and encourage responsible pet adoption as a meaningful part of the healing process.

We are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for everyone. We value diversity and acceptance and proudly serve individuals of all faiths, LGBTQ+ communities, and people of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. We believe in meeting clients where they are, building on their strengths, and supporting their resilience as they move forward in their therapeutic journey.

Our bilingual clinicians provide services in English, Spanish, and soon Tagalog. They work with individuals, couples, children, adolescents, and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions. All of our therapists are trained in evidence-based practices that are scientifically proven to reduce symptoms and improve overall well-being. Because every client is unique, we tailor treatment using a variety of approaches, including art therapy, attachment-based therapy, TF-CBT, IFS, the Gottman Method, DBT, PCIT, play therapy, solution-focused therapy, CBT, ACT, mindfulness-based therapies, and trauma-informed care.

At Hermosillo Family Therapy, our goal is simple yet powerful: to provide accessible, affordable, culturally relevant mental health care while strengthening the well-being of the diverse communities we serve across California. We welcome you and invite you to begin your healing journey with us.

*We are currently licensed only in California and can provide therapeutic services only to those residing in the state.

Dr. Desirée Hermosillo with Cariña
(one of her Rescue Dogs)

Hola, and welcome!
My name is Dra. Desirée Hermosillo, PsyD, LMFT. I am the Founder and CEO of Hermosillo Family Therapy, Inc. I am a bilingual Latina Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with nearly a decade of experience as a mental health therapist. I am also a Clinical Psychologist, having completed all my required hours, and I am on the path to becoming a licensed psychologist.

My journey began with an A.A. in Child Development from East Los Angeles College (2011), followed by a B.S. in Child Development from the University of La Verne (2014), and a M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy with a Specialization in Latino/a Family Studies from Pacific Oaks College (2017). In 2024, I proudly earned my Doctorate in Applied Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in 2020 and have been honored to serve individuals and families since 2013.

Early in my career, I worked with foster and adopted youth, immigrants (new arrivals), adolescents, and families through community-based nonprofits in both residential and school-based settings. These experiences shaped my commitment to supporting clients through challenges such as depression, anxiety, trauma (including immigration and abuse-related trauma), PTSD, self-harm, grief and loss, and major life transitions.

After becoming licensed, I gained valuable experience in group practice settings and discovered my passion for private practice, where I could reach clients more flexibly, including through virtual care. In 2023, I also became a clinical supervisor, and it has been a privilege to mentor and guide the next generation of therapists. Building on that passion, I took a leap of faith and opened my own group practice, where we now combine high-quality client care with the training and development of future clinicians.

In July 2025, we were excited to expand by offering in-person sessions at our West Covina office. In November 2025, we opened our second location in Covina, CA. In March 2026, we were thrilled to have opened our third office in South Pasadena, CA.

At Hermosillo Family Therapy, our team is dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for individuals from all walks of life. We invite you to visit our [Meet the Team] page to learn more about our amazing clinicians and find the right fit for you.
